UP NEXT: Auditions for "Everybody" by Brandon Jacobs Jenkins directed by Virginia-Highland Church's own Hailee Zuniga. Join us March 30 from 7pm-9pm and March 31 from 8pm-10pm to audition for this dynamic, high concept play about mortality itself.
Renegade Theatre Company is stoked to announce auditions for Everybody, a play written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. This morality play examines what it means to live, what it means to die, and the journey in between. It is a modern adaptation of the 15th-century morality play Everyman, one of the first recorded plays in the English language. The play features the unique casting quirk of using a lottery system to define the roles of the play. Each actor must memorize the entire script and be prepared to play any role. This is meant to symbolize the randomness of death.
A Glimpse Into Our Interpretation
Everybody lives. Everybody dies. Everybody does some stuff in between. Audiences will see a different variation of the same piece due to the use of a lottery system to choose which actors play which roles. We will be exploring the use of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints throughout the rehearsal process to empower the actors to experiment with their bodies and impulses in space. Relying on minimal production design, this requires dedicated, physically driven actors to learn the many roles they may play. Everybody will be staged in the round and it will be an immersive experience. – Hailee Zuniga, Director

Disney's Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.
Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.
General auditions will be completed by video submission. These will be due Monday, April 7 by 7pm.
Production Dates: This production camp will take place May 31 - June 8.
Performances will take place June 6 - 8 at Red Phoenix Performing Arts Studio.

From Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, creators of such Broadway classics as Ragtime and Once On This Island, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.
General auditions will be completed by video submission. These will be due Monday, April 7 by 7pm.

Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys’ and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night” and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie,” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals, along with innumerable school and community productions, place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals.
General auditions will be completed by video submission. These will be due Monday, April 7 by 7pm. We encourage everyone to get their auditions in as quickly as possible, as they will be reviewed as they are submitted.
Production Dates: This production will take place July 7 - 20.

Out of Box Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for our return to the stage with TRASH DAY, directed by the playwright Dave Lauby.
ABOUT THE PLAY: The Wolley family has lived for decades in their decaying Smyrna GA home, and throughout those years have been threatened repeatedly for eviction due to Grampa Wolley’s hoarding and the mountainous accumulation of collectibles (ie, trash) on their junk-strewn property. On the day when the city has delivered its final ultimatum- clean it up or be evicted in 30 days- new neighbors move into the house next door, single dad Mike Aubrey and his pre-teen daughter Allegrae, two displaced persons with a troubling story of their own. Emerging from the depths of the Wolley trash pile is 10 year-old Jackson Wolley, and the relationship which develops between this beanie baby-loving, stray cat adopting old-soul and regally-aloof Allegrae proves as heartbreaking as it is hilarious. Will the Wooley clan clean up their act in time to save their hard-scrabbled homestead? Will Jackson and Allegrae find tweenie love against the backdrop of human debris? And will it show in the end that not everything (nor everyone) that comes from a trash pile is trash?

Voice Lesson with Isa Martinez
Private Lessons: 30min to 1hr sessions now available!
Group Lessons: Information coming soon!
In both Group Voice and Private Voice lessons students will learn vocal technique. We will cover skills such as proper breath support, diction, healthy resonance, phrasing, and performance. Both options are great for singers who are looking to create a foundation of healthy vocal technique.
In Group Voice we’ll be working in a small group (4-10 students) for 8 weeks. Each week we will explore a new topic within vocal technique, and students will be asked to sing in groups, and individually. This is a great option for beginner singers who would like to explore new singing techniques in the comfort of a group setting.
In Private Voice Lessons, students have the option to take 30 minute or 1 hour lessons. Here I will work one on one to help the singer reach their personal goals. Whether it is to extend their range, find new repertoire, continue to establish good vocal technique, or prepare for an audition. Voice lessons can be scheduled weekly, and there is more flexibility in scheduling. Voice students will have the opportunity to perform in a Spring Recital.

For our Chametz-Off, we’ll be giving your dough a little more time to rise.
-
How do I participate?
-
-
Participation in the Chametz-Off is by application only. We will give eight playwrights two weeks to write a short play (10-15 minutes) that includes all three ingredients AND integrates or celebrates Jewish culture. The application link will be available from March 24 until April 6th at 11:59 PM.
-
Selected playwrights will be notified on April 11th. All selected playwrights will receive the “ingredients” on April 21st at the same time. Playwrights will have one private group workshop (a “first proof,” so to speak) halfway through the writing period via Zoom, and the plays will be directed and performed as a staged reading at The Breman Museum & Cultural Center for all to enjoy!

Casting Opportunities
-
Morehouse School of Medicine is casting now for Standardized Patients. This is a pretty well-paid gig wherein you essentially act like medical patients while the medical students try to figure out how to diagnose you. You usually get a clear outline of the character with some scripted dialogue, but much of it is improv, based on the character outline. It's a lot of fun, and several of our members work there. If you are interested, please send your headshot and resume to Dr. Jan Abraham at jeabraham@msm.edu. The schedule is flexible.

June 23-27, 2025 - Atlanta Dramatists and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA) have created two Youth Playwriting Camps for summer 2025.
-
The Junior Playwriting Camp is for 10-13 year-olds, who will learn about play structure, along with characters, conflict, dialogue, and action. The process will include creative hands-on games and exercises, quiet writing time, guided peer feedback experiences, and one-on-one feedback time with the instructor.
- The 25 Hour Play Project is for teens aged 14+ who want to write AND direct AND act. The first two days involve creative writing exercises as each participant writes a 10-minute play. On the third day, we’ll read the plays aloud, considering them primarily as directors. Each participant will direct one play and act in two others. Rehearsals take place during the last two days. The process is engaging, involving and FUN. The first two days involve creative writing exercises as each participant writes a 10-minute play. Membership Announcement:
On September 19, 2024, Atlanta Dramatists celebrated our one-year anniversary. In that time, we've achieved some significant milestones:
-
Created an amazing Board of Directors, made up of 9 incredible artists and humanitarians, as well as an Advisory Board with 12 other amazing artists and humanitarians.
-
Successfully partnered with Academy Theatre and Senior University of Greater Atlanta (SUGA) on several ventures, and laid the groundwork with numerous other organizations for potential future partnerships.
-
Fully cast and held cold readings of 16 full-length stage plays and screenplays live and over Zoom.
-
Fully cast and held cold readings of nearly 70 short plays and excerpts of longer plays live and over Zoom.
-
Full cast and staged 2 fully rehearsed readings of original musicals.
-
Successfully held 2 workshops with a guest artist (on Stage Combat and Stage Intimacy), and laid the groundwork for countless others.
-
Held a garden party and poetry reading at our Vice President Carol Welter's home.
-
Fully incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of Georgia.
-
Met with Georgia Lawyers for the Arts and have begun the process of filing for a 501(c)3 designation.
-
Built up a website, a Facebook page, and an Instagram page.
Excerpt for the workshops and the two fully rehearsed readings, all of the above events have been entirely free and have incorporated volunteer talent. While our Board of Directors intends to remain volunteer-based, we do feel it's important that we begin to pay and recognize our actors and other talent who help make our readings and events so special. To that end, we have decided to shift from a free membership to a paid membership model. What does this entail?
-
$20 membership fee for the entire year (if you pay now, you will be covered for the remainder of 2024 and all of 2025)
-
Dues-paying members will receive discounts (and sometimes even free admission) to all of our workshops and readings for the year.
-
Only dues-paying members will be eligible to have their scripts read in our First Sundays reading series, our Fourth Monday reading series, and our Fully-Rehearsed Play Reading series. Please note that if you have already submitted a script and have received confirmation with a reading date, then you will be grandfathered in for that reading, but if you wish to submit future scripts (including short excerpts), you will need to become a dues-paying member.
-
These fees will allow us to begin paying our actors who participate in these events a small stipend, as well as allow us to file necessary paperwork, hire directors and dramaturgs for fully-rehearsed readings, pay the venues (including Academy Theatre), and meet other necessary financial goals.
-
$20 membership fee may be paid through Venmo at @atlantadramatists, through Zelle at atlantadramatists@gmail.com, or by cash or check made out to Atlanta Dramatists at one of our official events.
-
Audience members are welcome to attend our cold readings for free on Zoom or live, though a small fee may be requested for attendees of our fully rehearsed readings, workshops, and potential full productions. Dues-paying members will always receive a discount (and possibly even free admission) to any of our events that require an admission fee. The discount amount may vary based on the scope of the event.
-
